Three Stripes Cocktail

Well we're not at the cove tonight, but I did get to make our cocktail!
It is on page 172 of our Guide and is a 'Three Stripes Cocktail'.

The recipe:

1 oz Gin (Booth's)
1/2 oz Dry Vermouth (Noilly Prat)
1 tbsp Orange Juice

Another thought - I might have to change this blogs name to mosquito cove! We're on the beach by an outlet outside of Galveston and the mosquitoes are swarming!

Rolls-Royce Cocktail

We started out the evening going to a "going away party" for Robin and Patrick Evans.  After 2 margaritas - for Bill and 2 Chardonnays for Olga - tonight's cocktail taste was a bit muted perhaps.

I fixed a 'Rolls-Royce' (page 149 in the book):

Recipe:

1/2 oz Dry Vermouth (Noilly Prat)
1/2 oz Sweet Vermouth (Noilly Prat)
1 1/2 oz Gin (Booth's)
1/4 tsp Benedictine

Stir with ice and stain into cocktail glass.

We tripled the recipe to make 2 glasses for us.

(I really think I need to find another cocktail glass. The ones we use really spill a lot over the edge!)

I may not make this one again, it was about 5 out of 10 on the Wilson scale.

These are the ingredients used to make the Rolls-Royce
We are leaving in the morning for a week's vacation on the beach near Galveston , Texas.  We'll be there with our daughter, son-in-law, and and 3 grandsons.
Our liquor cabinet may be a bit limited but we'll see what we can do....hopefully we'll be able to access the Internet.

See all of you later.

Floridora Cooler

It's so much fun - doing all of this, I decided to do a second drink tonight.
This one is a 'Floradora Cooler' (page 81). As you can see  by the shadows, the sun was definitely below the yardarm....

Recipe:

Into a collins glass put :

juice of 1 lime
1/2 tsp powdered sugar
1 Tbsp Grenadine
2 oz carbonated water
Stir, Fill glass with Ice and add 2 oz Gin

Fill with carbonated water, or ginger ale and stir again.

I used carbonated water to fill the glass - after the cocktail earlier, this drink was definitely a cooler!
Nice - but probably won't make again. ( It might be better with ginger ale -or else stir it more.  I tasted mostly carbonated water!)

Rose Cocktail -French Version

Three days ago we started working our way through Mr. Boston's Official Bartender's Guide- the 50th Anniversary Edition- in no particular order- (published 1984-material included comes from 1935 edition and forward)
I do hope to live long enough to complete my journey through the book.  I enjoy these drinks nightly with my wife of 49 years!

Tonight we picked  'Rose Cocktail - French Version'  to enjoy. (page #149)

The recipe:

Add to shaker filled with cracked ice

1/2 ounce Cherry Brandy (LeRoux)
1/2 ounce Dry Vermouth (Noilly Prat)
1 1/2 ounce Gin  (I used Booth's Gin tonight)

Gently swirl to chill and strain into cocktail glasses - makes one cocktail - of course we tripled recipe to fill 2 cocktail glasses!

Enjoy!

I found this very tasty - not as sweet as 'Kiss in the Dark' that I made last night.
I will catch you up on the first 2 nights soon.
